Prayer in front of the Wailing Wall
Yaakov, Béla Orbán
"How touching is the vision of all those men and women, older and younger and even children embracing each other, poring over the ancestral wall to kiss it. Falling on their knees and crying with complain to break the hearts, they plate their face to the cold bricks…"
(Huber L., On the native land of Jesus Christ, Budapest 1900)
Lots of us have already seen and experienced the scene described above.
Still, most of us do not know what happens exactly in that moment and why do the Jews cry on that place.
They are mourning, they beg for the accomplishment of the Eternal’s Promises.
The Wailing Wall is the place where the Messiah is expected to come!
Exactly! And this wall is the continuity of a real “messianic” worship.
What does exactly happen when the present people unite there in praying?
A community forms in that moment: The Jewish People.
Nothing else happens but a constant worship which is a lifestyle among the Jewish people.
The prayer at the foot of the Wall is the same as the one said in the synagogues by the Jew’s living in the Diaspora. All those synagogues remind us on the destroyed Temple of Jerusalem and always turn toward the Holy City.
In the moment when the cantor starts the first notes by his moving deep voice, the assembly replies to it by the following prayer…
- For the Temple that was destroyed
- For the walls that were broken down
- For our Glory that has passed
- For our heroes who fell down
- For the dear stones that were burned here
....................................................................
- For our priests who sinned
- For our Kings who despised God
......................................................................
- We implore You, have mercy on Zion!
The assembly: Gather the children of Jerusalem.
- Hurry up, hurry up Redemer of Zion
The assembly: Talk to the heart of Jerusalem!
- May light and glory surround Zion!
Assembly: Ah, have mercy on Jerusalem..!
- May the Kingdom of Zion reappear!
Assembly: Bring consolation to those who cry for Jerusalem!
- May peace and happiness get into Zion!
Assembly: May the BRANCH (the Branch of Yesse, the osier, the Redemer Messiah) grow up in Jerusalem…
Is this a requiem, or rather the last ceremony of the period of the Old Testament?
None of these!
This is only the request for the accomplishment of God’s Word, His Promises, and the prophecies asked by faith.
This prayer is an echo to the Will and Project of God, a reminding Him of His Words.
We would only have to specify Somone’s name:
The name of Yeshua HaMasshiach of Nazareth.
All these prayers are talking about Him. These prayers are all addressed to Him. He is invoked in them. He, who the People could not yet recognise since God has put a veil upon their eyes because of the pagans.
The prayers formulated in front of the Cotel are nothing else but the requests of the urgent arrival of Yeshua HaMasshiach which are not only preceeded by sufferings but also by repent.
I believe and I know that the Body of the Messiah should formulate everyday prayers having the same content and demands as the ones told by the Jews.
